ISSA Team Racing Nationals 2013

ISSA Team Racing Nationals 2013

The Irish Schools team racing nationals were held in Schull over the weekend, with 14 teams competing from Munster, Leinster, Connaught and two teams from the UK, forecast did not look good, but a break in the wind strength on Saturday allowed racing to start on time.

Teams were divided into two groups from there ranking at the regional events, with Schull 1, Rochestown College, St Andrews, Schull 2, Gonzaga, Rice College and MCS from the UK in Group 1.

PBC, Kilkenny, Belvedere, Schull 3, Scoil Mhuire, Mt Anville and Morespeed from the UK in Group 2.

Racing took place in 18 of the new team racing boats supplied for the Team Racing Worlds 2011 called the TR 3.6, with little or no breakages, 42 races were run in quick succession with the top two from each group going forward to the Semi Finals and Finals.

In the first Semi Final MCS (UK) were matched against Kilkenny College and the second Semi Final PBC were matched against Schull 1

Kilkenny and PBC matched up for the play off for Silver and Bronze, with PBC taking the Silver 2-1.

Both MCS and Schull were the winners with two wins each and went head to head for the overall result both these teams have meet each other before in two Finals over the last two years at the British Schools Team racing Nationals with one win each, so this was an important final for both teams. Schull came out the winners with two wins, putting them as favourites for the British Schools Nationals in July.

signal will be at 10.00.
5 Entry and Eligibility
This event is open to School teams from Leinster. Team must consist of 6 members from
the same School and must be aged 18 or under on 14th April 2013.
To promote school team racing and to encourage participation by students from areas or
groups of institutions where there are insufficient sailors in each school to establish school
teams the Leinster Branch of ISSA may accept entries from “combined schools” teams.

The following conditions will apply:

• Combined Schools teams must represent a clearly defined geographical area, or a
recognised group of educational institutions;
• No combined school team member may be a student of a school that is entered in the
event.
• Where possible competitors of a combined team will be members of the same sailing
club;
• When the event is a qualifying event for further events, eligibility for that further event
will be decided by the organising authority of that event. If the combined school
teams is declared ineligible they will be replaced by the next team in the qualifying
event.
The number of entries is limited to ten teams. Decisions of the Leinster Branch of the Irish Schools Sailing Association about entry or eligibility shall not be cause for redress. This amends rules 62.1 and 63.1.

6 Entry Fees and Damage Deposits
The entry fee is €180 per team. To be eligible for Entry, teams must enter before Wednesday March
13th. The number of entries is limited to ten teams.
Each team will be liable for the cost of damage to boats, equipment and property up to a maximum
of €500 per incident. A deposit for this amount will be required at registration and before the team
may sail. When a team is assessed as liable for damage, it shall restore the deposit to the original
value in order to continue sailing. Damage attributed to competitors generally, or to an unidentified
team, will be attributed equally between all teams. A team may apply to the protest committee to
determine their responsibility for any damage. The deposit, or any remaining balance of the deposit,
will be returned after the Championship.
7 Rules
Racing will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) including
Appendix D, Team Racing Rules.
All races will be umpired. The Call Book for Team Racing will apply.
8 Personal Flotation Devices and Clothing
All competitors shall wear an adequate personal flotation device, and a dry suit or wet suit at all
times when afloat.
9 Acknowledgement of Risk
A boat is entirely responsible for her own safety, whether afloat or ashore, and nothing, whether in
the Notice of Race or Sailing Instructions or anywhere else, reduces this responsibility.
It is for the boat to decide whether she is fit to sail in the conditions in which she will find herself.
By launching or going afloat, the boat confirms that she is fit for those conditions and that her crew
is competent to sail and compete in them.
Nothing done by the organisers can reduce the responsibility of the boat nor will it make the
organisers responsible for any loss, damage, death or personal injury, however it may have
occurred, as a result of the boat taking part in the racing. The organisers encompass everyone
helping to run the race and the event, and include the organising authority, the race committee, the
race officer, umpires, patrol boats and beach-masters.
The provision of patrol boats does not relieve the boat of her responsibilities.
10 Prizes
Prizes will be supplied by the Organising Authority.
11 Irish Schools National Championships
The first four teams at the event will qualify to compete in the Irish Schools National
Championships which will be held in Schull, Cork on the weekend of April 13/14.
